MARRIAGE LICENSES


UNDER 18
If a person is between the ages of 16 and 18, both parents are required to come in to sign permission. If there is only one presiding parent, then that parent must bring legal proof of divorce with full custody or a death certificate. Parents must show valid Driver's License or ID. According to Alabama Code 30-1-4, individuals under the age of 16 may not marry.

RESIDENCY REQUIREMENT
You do not have to be a resident of Marshall County or the State of Alabama to obtain a marriage license.

PREVIOUS MARRIAGES
You must provide the date of the last divorce. If you were divorced within the last six months, you may need to show a copy of your Divorce Decree. According to Section 30-2-10 of the Alabama Code, there is a sixty-day restriction on getting married after a divorce.

WAITING PERIOD
There is no waiting period in Alabama except after being divorced. Then there is a sixty-day waiting period after your divorce is final.

FEES
The fee is $40 cash for marriage license only. The fee is $58 cash for license, ceremony and a certified copy of the marriage certificate.

OTHER REQUIRED TESTS
No blood or medical tests required.

MARRIAGE LICENSE
A marriage license obtained at this office is valid for thirty days only and can only be used in the State of Alabama.

MARRIAGE CEREMONY
You must make an appointment with the Probate Court in order to have the marriage ceremony at the time the license is issued.
