Summary

 

                Administer local, state, and federal cost-share programs, and conduct and coordinate educational programs on conservation topics in the schools and for community organizations.  Prepare grant applications and conduct activities to raise public awareness of environmental issues.  Act as receptionist for the Federal Department of Agriculture District Office.  Maintain financial and other records, and prepare reports as needed. 

 

Essential Job Functions

 

A.            Administer local, state, and federal cost share programs

               

                1.             Advertise programs in newspapers, via public service announcements, etc.

                2.             Provide applications to interested individuals and receive completed applications

                3.             Conduct drawing to award program funds to qualified applicants

                4.             Follow up with federal and state authorities to assure project completion in                                                          accordance with plans and specifications

 

 

B.            Perform general office duties, such as reception, filing, records maintenance, preparing for meetings, schedules events, etc.

 

                1.             Answer incoming calls and provides information or routes call to appropriate                                      individuals

                2.             Maintain financial records of cost share funds, grants, and budgeted funds

                3.             Prepare financial reports of funds received and expended

                4.             Prepare for monthly board meetings by making reservations, preparing agenda and                           notifying board members

                5.             Prepare minutes of board meetings

 

 

C.            Perform activities to raise awareness of conservation activities and programs and obtain funding

                               

                1.             Write grant applications for funds which would enhance program/office operations

                2.             Coordinate 3-5 county banquets/functions per year

                3.             Perform layout and design of conservation calendar

                4.             Serve as program coordinator for various programs, such as Earthteam, PALS, etc.

                5.             Conduct and oversee presentation of educational programs in community                                           organizations

                6.             Prepare news articles and features and submit to newspapers for publication

                7.             Prepare, organize, and present education programs to teachers, administrators, and                           students in local school systems

                8.             Provide educational materials at various grade levels to teachers and students

                9.             Organize Poster and Essay contests

 


                                 

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

 

1.             Knowledge of modern office practices, procedures, systems, and equipment including                      computers and software

2.             Knowledge of business English, spelling, arithmetic and terminology common to                conservation programs

3.             Knowledge of federal, state, and local soil and water conservation programs

4.             Knowledge of principles of communication

5.             Ability to oversee part time, temporary, and volunteer workers

6.             Ability to answer questions and provide information in a courteous and diplomatic manner

7.             Ability to work independently to accomplish the goals of the organization

8.             Ability to use a computer to store, retrieve and compile data, prepare reports and               correspondence

9.             Ability to operate office equipment such as computer, calculator, copy machine, fax        machine, and telephone system

10           Ability to read and understand complex rules, procedures, legal decisions, laws, etc.           pertaining to conservation programs

11.          Ability to maintain a variety of records, and prepare reports and answer questions relating               to the records

12.          Ability to compose memoranda, letters, articles, posters, and other correspondence and    reports

13.          Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing

14.          Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with officials, other          employees, and the general public

 

 

Minimum Qualifications

 

                Associate degree plus two years of clerical experience which includes using computer software for accounting, word processing and publishing, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
